Wes McClelland Joins Franklin Square Group as Partner

Washington, D.C. ​– Franklin Square Group today announced Wes McClelland will be joining the firm as Partner. Wes served as a Senior Policy Advisor for then House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and has nearly 20 years of public policy expertise, specializing on financial services and emerging technologies.

Prior to joining Franklin Square, Wes served as a Vice President of Federal Affairs and consultant to American Property Casualty Insurance Association where he led advocacy efforts and developed policy for the industry’s primary trade association. In addition to legacy insurance issues, Wes led industry policy task forces in the areas of Insurtech, cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, and cannabis.

As a Senior Policy Advisor to the then House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Wes was responsible for coordinating policy and legislation developed at the Financial Services, Energy & Commerce, Homeland, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Science Committees. Here he worked with Committee Chairman, Members, and staff to identify, prepare, and process legislation being considered on the House Floor. Additionally, he was staff lead for the House Energy Action Team (HEAT), a group of Congressional Members advocating for American energy independence.

Wes also served as senior policy advisor to Rep. John Campbell (R-CA) where he was primary staffer to the House Financial Services Committee during the 2008 Financial Crisis and subsequent consideration of the Dodd-Frank Act. Wes got his start on Capitol Hill in the office of former Ways and Means Chair Bill Thomas (R-CA), where he served as both systems administrator and legislative assistant.

A California native, Wes holds dual B.S. degrees in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering from Duke University and a Master’s in Economics from the University of Kansas.
